Background

Born in the Bronx to Marc-Antoine and Genevive Angell, Jessica grew up a true New York kid.

Life was good for the Angells until one day in 1986 when her mother was killed crossing 151st street. Only eight years old at the time, Jess found herself relying on her older brothers and her father as they all worked hard to make ends meet, and try and keep up the loving environment they'd all grown accustomed to.

Graduating from high school with top honors, Jess moved on to NYU on a full scholarship, majoring in Trauma and Violence Transdisciplinary Studies, a program that would allow her to get into the NYPD academy with a head start on her peers.

After graduating from NYU, Jess moved directly on to the Academy, working through the courses with meticulous attention, an ethic that drove her to the top of her class.

Having spent three years as a uniformed officer working out of Midtown, Jess put in the work to make detective while still managing the position she was in. Her work paid off when she was promoted to Detective 3rd grade and transferred to Homicide, where she's been ever since.

Psych Profile

Jess grew up a tomboy, and so has very little inclination towards the feminine aspect of her gender although she won't ever be caught dead without makeup on. Occasionally, she will slip on a dress, but those days are few and far between.

With the death of her mother, Jess lost the only female role model she had known, and as an adult finds herself gravitating towards women who are kind and nurturing, as her mother was.

As far as men go, Jess looks to those who are like her brothers and father; strong, caring, and not afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Jess' attraction to law enforcement was engrained at an early age. Her father spent his whole career in the NYPD, retiring as a Detective Sergeant. Her brothers are also in law enforcement in one capacity or another and so for Jess the choice was a clear one.

Preferring one or two familiar faces to a crowd of people, Jess can sometimes be seen as a loner though she is far from anti-social. Her many Friday nights at Sullivan's with her co-workers can attest to that.

Determination and patience are two Jess' strongest traits, allowing her to keep her head even in dangerous and tense situations. These traits seep into her personal life as well, making her the one her friends come to when in need of encouragement and advice or just a good listener to vent their problems to.
